As many as one in five young people are experiencing a mental health problem at any one time. Suicide attempts by young men have risen by over 170% since 1985. Yet young people have some of the most dismissive attitudes on mental health.
Young people are a crucial audience for the mind out for mental health campaign. We are working with a range of partners to raise young people's awareness of mental health and discrimination.
With the National Union of Students (NUS) we are distributing materials and organising events to encourage awareness and action on mental health discrimination in colleges and universities.
In partnership with The Guide Association, The Scout Assoc0iation and UK Youth, we have also produced a resource pack, 'change your mindset', for youth groups on attitudes to mental health. You can download the pack below.
mind out for mental health has also launched Read the Signs targeting young people aged 14-21. Find out more at www.readthesigns.org.
'change your mindset' is a colourful, 40-page A4 activity pack for youth group leaders working with teenagers. It contains a series of lively activities and accessible factsheets to enable youth group leaders to run activity sessions, raising awareness on mental health issues and encouraging young people to question their attitudes.
The pack is available as a set of PDF files, which can be downloaded using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
