Every year hundreds of activities are held across England which promote positive attitudes towards mental health and set out to challenge stigma and discrimination. Many of these take place around World Mental Health Day, held on 10th October each year. To help organisers exchange good ideas and lessons learned we have reviewed a selection of activities and provided summaries for you to download. The projects vary widely in terms of target audience, location and resources.

The good practice case studies are available as PDF files, which can be downloaded using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Expressions - a children's painting and poetry competition run in schools on the theme of 'feelings'. Newcastle upon Tyne and North Tyneside.

Hold Hands for Health - a giant human chain in the town centre and a balloon release. Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

Looking After Me - a women's open day covering all issues affecting well-being. Greenwich, London.

Plates Project - a programme to decorate plates with positive perceptions of mental health and exhibition. North Staffordshire.

Speaking Out - a drama project written and performed by service users. Liverpool.

What's Your Policy? - a one day workshop for employers. Havant, Hampshire. If you know of a successful activity that you think other people could learn from then please contact us on e-mail at info@mindout.net or write to us at:
